First day of school

Today was the first day back to school for my boys, Donavan and Tristan. Needless to say that I was up 15 minutes early before the alarm clock ever went off and was dressed by the time that Donavan came out of his room.

He met me in the kitchen and told me good morning. I told him the same and asked him if his brother was awake. He told me that he was still sleeping, so I advised him to go wake him up. So in to his room he went. I was in the kitchen getting the previous night dishes stacked so that I could tackle them at some point in the day. Both boys come into the kitchen wanting breakfast. I made them each a bowl of cereal. After I was finished with that, I made Piper's bottle so that it was ready to go for when she woke. We discussed what our rules were in the morning. 1. Get up and shut off alarm clock. 2. Eat breakfast. 3. Get dressed for school. 4. Brush our hair and teeth. 5. Put our shoes on and get our backpacks. 6. Leave for school.
Now if for some reason there is time in between 5 &6, then they are allowed to watch a little bit of TV, but everything else has to be done first....

Donavan finishes his breakfast and goes to get ready for school. By this time, I am at my computer checking emails and seeing if anyone is online yet. I then realize that Tristan had gone into the family room and turned on the TV after he ate his breakfast. I went in and asked him if he had lost his mind, because this was not apart of our morning routine. He immediately shut off the TV and proceeded into his room to get ready for school. I followed him so that I could make sure that he got dressed and so that I could wake up Piper. I woke up Piper and turned her over so she could see us. I picked her up and changed her diaper. I helped Tristan get his socks and shoes on and then they, Donavan and Tristan, wer off to brush their teeth. Needless to say they were able to watch a few minutes of TV before we walked to school.

Five minutes to 8 and we're out the door. I had both my cell phone and camera in hand so that I could take first day pictures, knowing that I had to send them to California. So we're off down the road to school. We made our way to the school and found other children that were in Tristan's class walking to school too. We get to the school and we have to go to the gym. Everyone meets in the gym in the mornings to sit with their classes and to say the Pledge of Allegiance. It was hotter than blazes in there with all the kids, parents and faculty. I led Tristan to where he was supposed to sit and took a few more pictures. I then walked over to where Donavan's class was and took his picture too. We were in the gym for what seemed like forever, but finally the principal came in to welcome everyone back and to get the year started. We stood up and said the Pledge and had a moment of silence. Then off to class.

I walked Tristan to his class. One of his little friends from around the neighborhood is in his class as well....oh joy! So we get to his class and he hangs up his backpack and sits down at his desk just as the teacher had instructed. I took a couple of more pictures, before I made my departure. I told him that he had to listen to the teacher and do whatever she told hm to do. I told him that he couldn't do a lot of talking or else he would get into trouble. And I left.

Believe it or not, no tears. I got home and it felt really weird because Tristan wasn't there asking me something every 5 minutes. Can I have this or that? Can I play on your computer? You know those types of things. It was omnious.(sp)

My morning was busy regardless, because of Piper. She was being a handful this morning, so I was unable to go to the much needed gym. Her therapist showed up at 10:15 and we worked with her. I let her therapist know that I had to leave at like 10:40 to go get Tristan. So Joe came out and finished the therapy, so that I could go get my little big man.

I got to the school and the first thing out of his mouth was that he had gotten put in timeout. It took everything I had not to laugh, because I expected as much. So he vaguely told me what happened, so I asked the teacher. He wouldn't stop talking and disrupting class, so she took away his Happy Rock and his penny. After those were taken away, he continued so he went in timeout. The Happy Rock and penny is something that everyone gets every morning and if they misbehave they get them taken away. If she doesn't collect any pennies at the end of the day or week, then the class gets a treat or something like that. So then right before they are leaving, he runs into the coat cubby and gets a goose egg on his head. Poor guy.

Like I said, I half expected him to get into trouble the first day, because it's been over a year since he's been in a school-like environment. So I wasn't shocked. We walked home and he told me about his day.

Time passes and now it's time to go get Donavan. Tristan wanted to walk with me, but he passed out on the couch watching Aladdin. So, Piper and I went. We had about 5-7 minutes to spare before the bell rang when we got there. I found a friend there, who's daughter is going to the same School. Bell rings and the children emerge. When I finally saw Donavan's teacher, I found him and asked him how his day was.

Donavan had a good day. He went to ART today. He also told me about some of his classmates that were in his class from last year. I asked him if he got into trouble and he said no, but a girl in his class did. He pushed Piper while I checked out his backpack. Darn, no real homework. Just some papers to read, and a brown paper bag that he has to do a project for, that's due on Wednesday.

So all in all, the first of school went alright. Is it time for them to go to bed and get up for tomorrow yet?

And just think in March, Piper will start pre-school right after her 3rd bday. AAAHHHHHHHHH!!!!!
